AN extension to a new 3BE

TRANSPORTATION

Mobility drives economies and human life.  The ability to move goods and people from one place to another did not only open new markets, but transformed the concept of life since the invention of the wheel in 3500 BC.   Since 1860, the technology behind the internal combustion engine has come with several big failures such as pollution, over-dimension, low usability, and infrastructure dependency.

At 3BElabs we work on a new concept of transportation with the new technology trends.  This is our lab. We believe that a new mobility paradigm is needed for the future of cities in order to efficiently transport goods and people.

From Concept to Reality

We will talk about the infrastructure and the 3BE of the future.

At 3BElabs we work on new transportation prototypes, let´s talk about this new paradigm.

TODAY´s problems

FORGET ABOUT THE CAR

Cars have more than 150 years of intrinsic problems, and today’s vehicles present the following paradigm that very few question:

  1. They have equivalent dimensions to vehicles created in 1335,
  2. They are responsible for 14% to 27% of global greenhouse gas emissions,
  3. They create up to 75% of carbon monoxide pollution,
  4. They block the streets and highways for an average of 73 minutes per day,
  5. They stay parked for 95% of their lifespan.

Cars represent the biggest segment of the transportation market and 92% of them had limited to no evolution process for future interoperability, scalability, flexibility,  and software complexity to truly capitalize on its value.

Forget about the motocycle as well

But consider its advantages.

A trend in the market

THE PROBLEM IS MOBILITY

Big solutions for transportation that resonate with the consumer mind are the Electric Vehicle (EV), light vehicles, and motorcycles.   EVs represent an alternative for gas engine cars and a growing market worldwide.  Even so, the overall number of cars sold globally has been flat since 2016 while light vehicle production and motorcycle sales increase.  The conclusion then may be simple:  People want more vehicles to solve their mobility problems, but those vehicles should look closer to a motorcycle than to a car. However, and this is a big one, 70% of people worldwide will not consider a motorcycle as their only vehicle due to security and safety reasons.

Even though new generations no longer consider a vehicle as their most prized purchase, the comfort that users report in a house or apartment is closely linked to the number of parking spaces they have access to.  This may sound like a contradiction.  However, our studies show that it is not a car or a motorcycle, it is the mobility perceived by the user that makes them buy, maintain and value a property.

We have to develop something better for the future.

Where mobility and infrastructure are coordinated.

Some data for the transportation of the future.

We have to consider the data.

Transportation and mobility in cities represent one of the biggest challenges of the next generation.

The solution: new real estate or new vehicle?

People

By 2025, 6.4 billion people will live in urban areas (58%) of the world’s population.

Trips

By 2030, at least 30 billion-trips will have been made by people in a vehicle.

Mobility

2.6X growth in urban mobility will be demanded by 2050.

Gridlock

Heavy congestion in cities can result in drivers spending 70hrs per year in gridlock.

Pollution

Urban mobility will increase and will use up to 80% of energy related with carbon impact.

Passengers

By 2050, 67.1 trillion kilometers will have been traveled in passenger vehicles.

Our Lab will continue showing results.
